Do it once Do it right!" is the philosophy of Houston Structural, Inc. These are just a few of the
high praises H.S.I. has received from many happy customers: "You demand high standards on
workmanship and detail, which is evident in the craftsmanship you get from your contractors.
"You and your crews took a good plan and executed it almost flawlessly."
"We've been extremely pleased with the quality of work and the support of your staff."
"It is such a pleasure to deal with people of such high standards and integrity."
"Thank you for making our dreams come true!"
Houston Structural is by far one of the best remodelers in the city. Tom and his dedicated partners are uniquely qualified to be at the top of the remodeling industry. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from Colorado University. He founded Houston
Structural in 1979 and incorporated two years later.
"Our pledge to customers is for an out-
standing job to their satisfaction," says Tom Lammers, president. "We expect and accept only a first-class job from our
subcontractors."
Tom is a champion for the homeowner and the remodeler in the building industry. A member of the Government Affairs Committee of the Texas Association of Builders, Tom holds the qualifications of Certified Remodeler (CR), Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR), and Graduate Master Builder (GMB). For over 17 years, Tom has been an active member of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). He is a member of the local board of directors, having twice held the position of president, and was the vice president of Standards and Ethics. He is active with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the largest and most influential trade organization in the industry. He has been the NARI delegate to the Construction Industry Council (CIC) for the past 12 years. He has served on the High Wind Study Group, helping draft windstorm building codes for the southeast Texas area. As a result of many years of Tom's advice, leadership and hard work, the vital Texas statewide building code standard, using the International Residential Building Code, was passed into law. This benefits homeowners, builders and remodelers by creating uniformity of construction techniques and enforcement procedures for noncompliance. One of Houston Structural's subcontractors sums up the high regard homeowners and
associates have for Tom and the company: "We work for hundreds of individual builders and
contractors," says Richard Christ, president of Mas Tech II
Services, "and what sets Tom Lammers apart is he's an advocate for his client's best interests and puts the customer first. Tom is on site more than other contractors. He's one of the good guys. With Tom Lammers, 'good enough' never is! This is his passion, his legacy, and what we
know him for. I think when Tom hangs up his hammer that will be his legacy. It's a great one." With the vision of providing excellent service to clients throughout subsequent generations, Houston Structural seeks to hire and keep the finest people. In an endeavor to give the company permanence, partners have been included, and a graduated ownership plan adopted to facilitate
this. Each partner brings unique training and talents to the team.
An essential pillar of support and major part of the team at Houston Structural is Partner Pat Briggs. She is an energetic, successful leader and office manager, admired by coworkers, suppliers and tradesmen. Always performing her responsibilities with excellence, Pat is the main reason H.S.I. daily operations run so smoothly. Honorable and stable, she has continually performed at a very high level since joining the corporation in August 1992. Her earlier job experiences equipped her to handle all financial aspects of H.S.I. She received individual training by a CPA and organized and maintained all financial records for a kitchen design firm. Computer literate, she set up and updates H.S.I.'s complex accounting software. Very logical in her approach to organizing, Pat has helped keep subcontractors on schedule by tracing their product and material orders. This is one crucial step in meeting the job completion date and a key factor in client satisfaction. When a pressing project requires extra time and energy, she always rises to the occasion, spending extra time to get it done, without sacrificing the day-to-day operations of the corporation. Tom
appreciates her excellent effort, and throughout the years has only had the highest praise for her, "Pat is the best thing that has ever happened to Houston Structural!"
One recently completed remodel by H.S.I. was a 2,300-square-foot house built in 1955 (seen in the photo right). The house was divided into many small rooms, including a family room, kitchen, breakfast room, utility room and closet. The kitchen had never been remodeled and still had original aqua painted cabinets and speckled linoleum floor. Stripped to bare studs, the entire space was restructured, opening up all rooms into one big space. Now, hardwood floors grace the entire space, with numerous illuminated work areas and a breakfast bar as a room divider. The homeowners are very excited about the new remodel. "When H.S.I. came, they had great design ideas, too. They helped us think 'outside the box.' He suggested knocking out a wall, and making several rooms into one; it was absolutely the right thing to do. The area is the primary living space for the home, and the changes he suggested really opened it up. We lived in the home while construction was going on and found
the subcontractors to be excellent. Our home is now a great place to live and entertain guests." Their suppliers also admire and appreciate the company's honesty and integrity. "Houston Structural is an exceptionally honest company, which makes it much easier for us to deal with their
clients," says Dan Argo, owner of A Plus Glass. "Houston Structural is the only contractor out of the 90 contractors we work for that allows us to divulge their cost to the client. I have been in the trade twenty-one years and during all that time I've never had a contractor allow me to divulge
costs to their clients until I met Houston Structural."
Houston Structural has won many awards for its quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Among them are the 2000 NARI National Contractor of the Year Award for Best Residential Interior, Greater Houston Builders Association 2001 Remodeler of the Year, the 1995 and 1997 NALRI Contractor of the Year Region 5 Awards, and many of the Texas Building Trends Lone Star Awards from 1995-present. The company is a member of the 2000 Qualified Remodeler Top 500, and is active in the Chamber of Commerce and Better Business Bureau. Builder/Architect Magazine is proud to feature Mr. Tom Lammers and his talented partners with Houston Structural, Inc. We thank them for their years of hard work and commitment to honesty and integrity in the Houston remodeling industry. Congratulations as they celebrate the 20th
anniversary of their incorporation! May they enjoy continued success and prosperity.
